Shopping Tips for Trier, by Weather
Spring & Summer (March-August)
The mild Moselle climate makes shopping in Trier very pleasant. The pedestrian zone around the Hauptmarkt is the center. Look for local wine and Roman souvenirs. In the heat, the cool walls of the Porta Nigra offer a welcome change. Light clothing is ideal.
Autumn (September-November)
Autumn is the time of the grape harvest. Perfect for visiting the region's wineries and buying directly from the producer. A light jacket is sufficient for a stroll through the city.
Winter (December-February)
The Christmas market in front of the cathedral has a unique historical backdrop. The winters are mild but damp. A good raincoat is often more important than a thick winter coat. There are good deals in the winter sales after Christmas.
